Hunan Boyun Oriental Powder Metallurgy Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise jointly initiated and established in 1994 by the Powder Metallurgy Research Institute of Central South University of Technology (now the Powder Metallurgy Research Institute of Central South University) and Hunan Yinzhou Co., Ltd. under the auspices of Academician Huang Boyun, a renowned materials scientist in China. Its current shareholders are Hunan Boyun New Materials Co., Ltd. and Bangxin Asset Management Co., Ltd. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Orient Asset Management Co., Ltd.), with a registered capital of RMB 307,298,955 yuan.

       With Academician Huang Boyun as the Chief Scientist and Honorary Chairman, Boyun Oriental is a national-level high-tech enterprise and a national specialized, sophisticated, distinctive and innovative "Little Giant" enterprise that integrates domestic and foreign talents and technological advantages to engage in the R&D, production and sales of high-performance cemented carbide through the integration of industry, university, research and application. The company is a director unit of the China Tungsten Industry Association, China Die & Mould Industry Association, Cutting Tool Branch of China Machine Tool & Tool Builders' Association, China Machine Tool & Metal Cutting Tool Technology Association, and Drill Steel & Drill Tool Branch of China Steel Construction Society. It also owns a provincial-level innovation platform - the "Hunan Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for High-efficiency and Precision Cemented Carbide Tools and Dies".

       Closely relying on R&D platforms such as Central South University, State Key Laboratory of Powder Metallurgy, National Engineering Research Center of Powder Metallurgy, National Key Laboratory of Lightweight High-Strength Structural Materials, and National Quality Supervision and Inspection Center for Powder Metallurgy Products of China Nonferrous Metals Industry, the company has achieved fruitful results in technological innovation.        Nanometer cemented carbide refers to cemented carbide with WC grain size less than 0.2 μm. Compared with traditional cemented carbide, nanometer cemented carbide has both higher hardness and higher strength, effectively solving the problem of ultra-high speed cutting of difficult-to-process materials such as high-temperature alloys, titanium alloys, composite materials and hardened steel, and greatly improving the efficiency of mechanical processing. It is the preferred cutting tool material in the aerospace field and high-end equipment manufacturing industry.

      Tested by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) of the United Kingdom, an internationally authoritative institution, the average WC grain size of Boyun Oriental's nanometer cemented carbide is 0.11 μm, which is the smallest grain size among all WC/Co materials tested by the laboratory from the 1980s to 2022. The overall technology has reached the international leading level, making Boyun Oriental one of the few enterprises in the world that mass-produce and sell nanometer cemented carbide at present.

      The preparation of extra-coarse cemented carbide is highly challenging. The company has successfully developed extra-coarse cemented carbide with WC grain size of 11.2 μm and better service performance. Its overall technology has reached the international advanced level, and some performance indicators have reached the international leading level.

      The main products of Boyun Oriental include high-performance ultrafine/nanometer cemented carbide rods, high-performance cemented carbide mold materials, high-performance extra-coarse grain engineering and mining cemented carbide, and finely processed cemented carbide finished products (parts/components), etc. The company's products are applied in industrial fields such as aerospace, automotive, national defense construction, metallurgy, tunnel excavation engineering, mining, and 3C industries, and have won wide recognition from customers.

       In addition to being registered in China, the "Boyun" trademark has also been registered in the United States and the European Union, and its products are exported to advanced countries and regions such as Europe, America and Japan.
